Winter 2013

So I love blue and silver.  This love comes largely from my Mother who got it from her Father.  I never knew my Grandpa so for the last few years I've liked to do something blue and silver for Christmas in memory of him.  These are just a couple of decorations that I was able to put together after Christmas.  I know I know.  Kind of crazy.  But they make for very beautiful winter themes.  The bucket is a sap bucket my Mom got from a trip (I think) and the snowflakes were crocheted by my wonderful Mother.

A little fun fact about this piece is the electrical insulators.  My other Grandpa (My Dad's Dad) used to collect these.  About two or three years ago I came across a decorating idea that incorporated them and I have been using them ever since.  One unfortunate thing is my Dad was cleaning out his work building where my Grandpa had kept a lot of these insulators.  He told us all to take what we wanted and then the rest got thrown away.  This was all before I even thought about really using them so I just got a couple to have as a memory of my Grandpa (who I didn't know either because he died when I was two).  So anyway most of these ones I actually bought at an antique shop and I've started my own little collection to use in decorating and to keep as memories.

Thanksgiving 2013

So one of my favorite things about the holidays is decorating.  For the last few years I've been able to decorate my parents house and I love it because I have a lot more resources than I do at my apartment.  This is the centerpiece I put together for this years dinner.  I have the great fortune of having a family large enough that one table is not big enough.  So I got to create two beautiful centerpieces.  It is getting a little challenging trying to make them different each year.  It is fun though.
